…a quick addition to my previous post about Boy on the Edge. One of my favorite scenes in this book is at the very beginning when Emily makes Henry rye pancakes:

“The warm pancake, soaked with melted butter, tasted even better than it smelled; its softness on the tongue, the mild taste of cinnamon or herbs or something, sent a gentle shiver through him, a rush of pleasure he’d never felt.”

I love this description because it made me associate Emily with these rye pancakes for the rest of the novel. I think it’s really kind of amazing how the author does this. Also, now I really want to try those pancakes.

Here’s what looks like a possibly legit recipe:

If anyone has any knowledge of Icelandic cooking, please comment, I am intrigued.
